Summary

Leigh Bardugo's Six of Crows meets Kristin Cashore's Graceling, with a dash of Winter is Coming, in this showstopping debut YA fantasy!

The Age of Darkness approaches。
Five lives stand in its way。
Who will stop it 。 。 。 or unleash it?

For generations, the Seven Prophets guided humanity。 Using their visions of the future, they ended wars and united nations—until the day, one hundred years ago, when the Prophets disappeared。

All they left behind is one final, secret prophecy, foretelling an Age of Darkness and the birth of a new Prophet who could be the world’s salvation 。 。 。 or the cause of its destruction。 As chaos takes hold, five souls are set on a collision course:

A prince exiled from his kingdom。
A ruthless killer known as the Pale Hand。
A once-faithful leader torn between his duty and his heart。
A reckless gambler with the power to find anything or anyone。
And a dying girl on the verge of giving up。

One of them—or all of them—could break the world。 Will they be savior or destroyer? Perfect for fans of Throne of Glass, Children of Blood and Bone, and An Ember in the Ashes。

real rating: 4。5 starsone of the most underrated books i've ever come across。 it has every good trope, done well: poc & lgbtq+ rep; chosen one but with a twist; one-room scene with one-bed-trope vibes; blood sisters; delectably high stakes。the only reason why i knocked 0。5 stars is because there were a couple povs i really didn't enjoy reading (*aggressive coughing* hassan) but in the end, the others highkey made up for it :)110% would recommend — it's one of my favourite series to date; i have real rating: 4。5 starsone of the most underrated books i've ever come across。 it has every good trope, done well: poc & lgbtq+ rep; chosen one but with a twist; one-room scene with one-bed-trope vibes; blood sisters; delectably high stakes。the only reason why i knocked 0。5 stars is because there were a couple povs i really didn't enjoy reading (*aggressive coughing* hassan) but in the end, the others highkey made up for it :)110% would recommend — it's one of my favourite series to date; i have no idea why this trilogy isn't more popular! 。。。more

This was such a page turner — as soon as I started reading, I could not put it down due to the amount of suspense or intrigue that many chapters ended with。 The author also did a great job transitioning between characters。 I can’t wait to read the rest of the series!

The characters, plot twists and world building were great! The first couple hundred pages were good and kept me intrigued。 It mostly followed different characters around。 It was the last 150 pages that captured me though!!

3,5 stars。 All right, not so bad for a debut high fantasy。 The plot and the world building are quite decent, and I really hope we get to see more of it in the rest of the series。 As usually with Young Adult there’s a lot of focus on the characters, and here I don’t mean growth, but their emotions and how they react to everyone and everything around them。 I don’t like it very much, but it wasn’t too overwhelming in this case。 Overall this is an interesting start to a series, and I’ll cross my fin 3,5 stars。 All right, not so bad for a debut high fantasy。 The plot and the world building are quite decent, and I really hope we get to see more of it in the rest of the series。 As usually with Young Adult there’s a lot of focus on the characters, and here I don’t mean growth, but their emotions and how they react to everyone and everything around them。 I don’t like it very much, but it wasn’t too overwhelming in this case。 Overall this is an interesting start to a series, and I’ll cross my fingers it only gets better。 。。。more

This was hardcore alright。 Lots and lots of world building laying the foundation to what will likely be a fantastic series overall。 Unfortunately, I never felt a connection with any of the characters, to the point where I often confused two of the main male leads。 Not that they were similar, its just that I had to make an effort to put a name to the face, so to speak, every single time the POV changed to either of them。 I'm interested to see where the story is going, but I'm not in any hurry to This was hardcore alright。 Lots and lots of world building laying the foundation to what will likely be a fantastic series overall。 Unfortunately, I never felt a connection with any of the characters, to the point where I often confused two of the main male leads。 Not that they were similar, its just that I had to make an effort to put a name to the face, so to speak, every single time the POV changed to either of them。 I'm interested to see where the story is going, but I'm not in any hurry to get there。 。。。more

1。5 *The idea of the story is good but the delivery is not。 The book drags for too long, half of the pages are unnecessary。 The characters are not memorable, they just exists。 Not a single of them have some kind of development or growth at the end of the book。 I’m disappointed because I was expecting way more, even though I did kind of enjoyed the majority of the story I know I won’t remember anything of it in a week。 The only thing I found really interesting was the whole Ancient Greece backgro 1。5 *The idea of the story is good but the delivery is not。 The book drags for too long, half of the pages are unnecessary。 The characters are not memorable, they just exists。 Not a single of them have some kind of development or growth at the end of the book。 I’m disappointed because I was expecting way more, even though I did kind of enjoyed the majority of the story I know I won’t remember anything of it in a week。 The only thing I found really interesting was the whole Ancient Greece background where the events take place。 。。。more

Told from multiple viewpoints, this start of a brand-new series is a taut fantasy that also manages to be a political thriller, romance, religious commentary and a sober contemplation of the nature of affection and what we’re willing to do to sustain those we love。This fantasy book has got it all—a terrific premise, complex characters, stirring dialogue, surprise plot twists and the threat of The End of the World As We Know It。 There are Chosen ones, prophecies, love interests, revenge fantasies Told from multiple viewpoints, this start of a brand-new series is a taut fantasy that also manages to be a political thriller, romance, religious commentary and a sober contemplation of the nature of affection and what we’re willing to do to sustain those we love。This fantasy book has got it all—a terrific premise, complex characters, stirring dialogue, surprise plot twists and the threat of The End of the World As We Know It。 There are Chosen ones, prophecies, love interests, revenge fantasies, mystical powers and enough double crosses to make a Borgia dizzy。 It’s the stuff of epic grandeur; lovers of fantasy novels will not be disappointed。 I breathlessly turned every page, eager to see what was going to happen next, staying up late and oversleeping through my alarm clock as a result。 If you want a book wherein a fictional world teeters on the edge of oblivion, this is one that will make your heart sing。 。。。more

I'm 21 and I've had the same favorite book since I was 14。 I wasn't even a third through this book before I knew that had changed。 This book is AMAZING! The characters have drive and realistic goals and fears。 The perspective switch is fantastic and really insightful。 The separate story lines come together write well, you can see how each character is important to the plot。 The plot twists are WILD but still make sense within the context of the book。 *THE WORLD BUILDING!* I cannot tell you how b I'm 21 and I've had the same favorite book since I was 14。 I wasn't even a third through this book before I knew that had changed。 This book is AMAZING! Dnf at 86%。 I usually don't rate dnfs, but considering how far I've got, I do not believe that reading any more would've changed my overall opinion。 The world intrigued me, that I have to say。 But nothing else。 No character made me push through, except maybe Ephyria。 The story is predictable and boring in general, In fact made me angry at times。 I stopped reading this like months ago, and not once have I thought about reaching out to continue it and I suppose its time to just give up on it despi Dnf at 86%。 I usually don't rate dnfs, but considering how far I've got, I do not believe that reading any more would've changed my overall opinion。 The world intrigued me, that I have to say。 But nothing else。 No character made me push through, except maybe Ephyria。 The story is predictable and boring in general, In fact made me angry at times。 I stopped reading this like months ago, and not once have I thought about reaching out to continue it and I suppose its time to just give up on it despite how it pains me to not finish a story when I'm this close to the ending。 。。。more

I agree that somehow in this book, so much yet so little simultaneously happened。 The plot itself seemed to be quite shallow yet drawn out。 Personally, I didn't feel any sort of attachment to the characters until I was 3/4 of the way through, and the plot didn't really entice me too much either。 That said, I enjoyed the last 1/4 of the book and because of that, I'll be reading the sequel。 I think I would have preferred this book if the five characters were more personally involved with each othe I agree that somehow in this book, so much yet so little simultaneously happened。 The plot itself seemed to be quite shallow yet drawn out。 Personally, I didn't feel any sort of attachment to the characters until I was 3/4 of the way through, and the plot didn't really entice me too much either。 That said, I enjoyed the last 1/4 of the book and because of that, I'll be reading the sequel。 I think I would have preferred this book if the five characters were more personally involved with each other。 They have not all interacted with each other, some did, but not all five at the same time for sure。 I'm hoping the sequel will bring together a reason for them to come together, but by the way this book ended, I think that's unlikely。 。。。more

3。5 stars。It reminded me a lot of other books I've read with a similar premise that ranged from mediocre to bad。 It's not the type of story I'm overly fond of。 These "group of strangers save the world" books always go the same way。 But the edge in TWCaD is the LGBT rep, characters you can hate not because they're poorly written, but because they are genuinely rubbish people, and so far the bad guy is still interesting。I'm not sure at this point if I'll continue with the trilogy。 It really did d 3。5 stars。It reminded me a lot of other books I've read with a similar premise that ranged from mediocre to bad。 It's not the type of story I'm overly fond of。 These "group of strangers save the world" books always go the same way。 But the edge in TWCaD is the LGBT rep, characters you can hate not because they're poorly written, but because they are genuinely rubbish people, and so far the bad guy is still interesting。I'm not sure at this point if I'll continue with the trilogy。 It really did drag in places, also there were a ton of weird time jumps and location changes。 But I'm intrigued about what the prophecy really means so that might be worth coming back for。 And there is one particular couple/potential couple that stole my heart。 。。。more

Truthfully, I got through about 250 pages of this book, had to put it down to do something, and then just never had the desire to pick it back up again。 I've waited almost an entire week to see if I had any desire whatsoever to continue the book and came to the conclusion it just wasn't for me。 I liked the premise, but I feel like it fell a little flat。 It wasn't until almost where I stopped that I felt like I had a handle on what was going on and how the world in the book worked。 The biggest re Truthfully, I got through about 250 pages of this book, had to put it down to do something, and then just never had the desire to pick it back up again。 I've waited almost an entire week to see if I had any desire whatsoever to continue the book and came to the conclusion it just wasn't for me。 I liked the premise, but I feel like it fell a little flat。 It wasn't until almost where I stopped that I felt like I had a handle on what was going on and how the world in the book worked。 The biggest reason I put it down and didn't pick it back up was that I just didn't care about the characters。 There were too many vying for attention。 I can deal with group books。 I mean, Six of Crows is still one of my all faves。 However, this book was trying to use too many character's POVs all at once。 It would have been better if we had followed a max of 3, maybe 4 with a less-complicated world system。 Instead, there were six, if I remember correctly。 Some people may be able to stick with this。 Again, the premise was amazing and the world the author set up seemed very interesting。 I just didn't get the connection with the characters that I need to have to really enjoy the book。 。。。more
